Trip Date: March 27th, 2021
An easy mountain bike ride through the old railway cut between Wilkeson and Carbonado. Started the ride from Wilkeson, WA, parking near the city skate park in the middle of town. The Wilkeson-to-Carbonado trail starts off as a paved trail, making for an easy ride up the hill behind town. Quickly the track turned to dirt and mud, with a few large puddles to dodge along the way. However, even after a rainy winter, the trail was not too soaked and was an overall easy ride on a mountain bike. Definitely not a trail to tackle with a road bike on skinny tires.
The trail continued about 2.5 miles through mostly undeveloped forest and terrain between the two towns. The rail cut is located a bit away from the surrounding roads, making for a quiet and nature filled bike ride. About 1 mile before Carbonado, WA the trail was blocked with large concrete blocks, and spray paint marking that section of trail as private property. Despite wanting to make it all the way into Carbonado today, I respected the private property and decided to turn it around and head back towards Wilkeson.
