Trip Date: August 23rd, 2020
Went for a day trip out to the Mountain Loop Highway in the Cascade Mountains at the peak of Summer 2020. Drove the loop, starting up at Darrington, WA and made our way south. I did a little bit of quad flying and got some great views from up high, which you can see in the trip video below. While there were quite a few folks out today, we were able to find some solitude and enjoy the mountains. This is a favorite place for us to visit, and is certainly a place we will come visit gain.
The Mountain Loop High consists of Hwy 92 at one end, Hwy 530 at the other, and Forest Route 20, in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in the middle. The highway consists of 52 miles of scenic road through and around stunning mountains in the middle of the Cascade Range. The Highway is entirely within Snohomish County and consists of both pavement and gravel. Some years the potholes get bad, but generally a standard passenger car can traverse the highway without issue. There are tons of hikes and campsites along the Mountain Loop Highway, along with numerous branch roads for further deep access in the National Forest and surrounding wilderness areas.
