The main attraction of the park, the Mount Rainier Volcano, is almost too big to absorb as you drive around it. Continuing east from the pass the highway travels down the American river valley. The road is cut into the mountainside and provides a stunning overlook of the valley below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-gc50578\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-gc50578 gutentor-element gutentor-element-image gutentor-enabled-width text-align-center-desktop\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img class=\"normal-image\" src=\"http:\/\/gravelbound.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/ChinookPass_20210621_194235_01-1024x1024.jpg\"\/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-normal-font-size\">Some parts of the road have only just melted out from snow and early summer wildflowers were to be seen.
